Research notes
No Winterthur catalogue record for an ingrain, Brussels or Wilton carpet was found through search (the collection site is poorly indexed and blocked from this sandbox). Leads to check directly: (1) the Cambridge History of Western Textiles (ed. David Jenkins, 2003) reportedly credits Winterthur for images of a 1757 carpet from Claude Passavant's Exeter manufactory and an Axminster carpet of 1765–70; this conflicts with the claim that the three surviving Passavant carpets are at the V&A, Petworth and in a private collection, so verify. (2) Winterthur Library Swatch Book Collection, Col. 50 (existing records wint-lib-swatch-books, wint-lib-tariff-brussels). (3) Winterthur Library trade catalogues on the Adam Matthew 'Trade Catalogues' platform (subscription); none found were carpet catalogues. (4) The McFadden thesis on Arbuthnot's Brussels drafts (thesis-mcfadden-arbuthnot-drafts) came from the Winterthur Program. Suggested searches on museumcollection.winterthur.org: 'ingrain', 'Kidderminster', 'Brussels', 'Venetian', 'Passavant', 'Axminster'.
