Research notes

How it works: Britannica Student says backing and pile yarns are interlocked in one operation by a knitting process, and lists knitting with chenille weaving as less widely used methods than weaving and tufting. Patent literature (US 6269759) notes that knit-pile structures put much of the pile yarn below the surface and need heavy back-coating with binder to be stable. No date of introduction or named maker was found. This needs a trade-history source.
