Two folders in the papers of Vladimir K. Zworykin (RCA television pioneer): "General - Image Designs, improved tufting machine (rug weaver), 1962" (Box M&A 80, Folder 4) and "General - Image Designs, patents (Improved Tufting Machine, Mosaic Tile Setter), 1961-1962" (Box M&A 87, Folder 29, https://findingaids.hagley.org/repositories/3/archival_objects/245806). No scope notes. Why it matters: an electronics engineer's file on an "improved tufting machine" for rugs in 1961-62 may be an early attempt at image- or pattern-controlled tufting (Programmable tufting: "the first computer-controlled broadloom tufting machine"). Who "Image Designs" were, and whether patents issued, needs the folders or a patent search. Found: Hagley finding aids, search "tufting", 2026-10-28.
