Research notes

Press release regarding the benefits of a new woven carpet textile made of nylon (Hagley summary). 2 pages, numbered A-2874, from DuPont's Public Relations Department, 350 Fifth Avenue, New York. The release (read from Hagley's OCR text) announces "the first carpet on the market with pile completely woven of Du Pont nylon", made by the Nye-Wait Company, Auburn, N.Y., under the name "Splendante", with contrasting pile heights giving "a bas-relief effect"; colours beige, gray and pastel green. Why it matters: Nylon chapter: dates the first all-nylon-pile carpet (woven, not tufted) to May 1948 and names the mill. Compare the c. 1955 Nye-Wait photograph (1972341_1333), whose caption says nylon carpeting was introduced "five years ago". Found: Hagley Digital Archives, search "nylon carpet", 2026-10-28.
