Research notes

Origin in the Genroku era (1688–1704). The third Saga lord 鍋島綱茂 granted a rice stipend to protect the technique, made it an official domain product, and banned sale to the general public. Citation check (Oct 2026, from search results; pages not opened): confirmed. Confirmed: the 3rd Saga lord 鍋島綱茂 promoted it and made it a domain 御用品 (Saga Pref.). It was a monthly gift to the shogun and sale to the public was banned (Nabeshima Hōkōkai). The ban was lifted in Meiji. The rice-stipend (扶持米) detail comes from the maker Yoshijima-ke and the 緞通碑 at 苗運寺, so it is tradition. The Genroku-era origin is per the maker's own copy.
