Research notes

The Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Company Carpet Factory: a downstream petrochemical story, not a textile-mill story. Connects to the nylon/synthetics thread. Citation check (Oct 2026, from search results; pages not opened): confirmed. The source is a promotional taxpayer profile of 北京双泉燕山地毯有限公司, whose predecessor was the Yanshan Petrochemical Co. carpet factory. The same text says its main equipment was imported: tufting lines from CMC and Tuftco (US) and Cobble (UK), Wilton looms from Belgium and Germany, BCF yarn line from Italy. It also says the firm helped draft the national woven and tufted carpet standards. Wikipedia's Yanshan entry dates the name 燕化公司化纤地毯厂 to 1 Nov 1987 (renamed from 东风化工厂). 'Led by an oil refinery' is the brief's framing. 'Earliest' is self-description, and some secondary summaries render it as 'one of the earliest'.
