Research notes
Western Han origin from the Western Regions; mature by the Tang. 1900 gold medal at the Paris Exposition; 1920: 354 workshops; 1956: Beijing No. 1 Carpet Factory (joint state-private). Citation check (Oct 2026, from search results; pages not opened): confirmed. The quotes and facts were found on the ihchina entry: 西汉由西域传入, mature by the Tang, 1900 Paris Exposition gold medal, 1920 with 354 workshops, the 1956 joint state-private Beijing No. 1 Carpet Factory, and 后继乏人，织造技艺面临失传的危险. The 354 figure counts workshops (作坊), and the record's description is consistent with that. Listing details vary: ihchina says 2nd national batch (2008), with Beijing Huafang Carpet Art Co. as the safeguarding unit, while other sources say 2009 or 2010. Some sources say Beijing carpets won multiple expo awards, including New York 1904.
