Research notes
Set up in 1967 by the Srivikorn family with Hong Kong and Philippine carpet makers; according to its parent's timeline it first sold carpets in Thailand under the "Tai Ping" brand, began exporting as "Royal Thai" in 1972, listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1978 (TCMC) and later bought Tai Ping's commercial carpet business, including the factory of Carpets International Thailand (CIT), Tai Ping's Thai hand-tufting plant. Makes hand-tufted (tufting gun) and Axminster carpet, mainly for hotels. Why it matters: shows the Tai Ping hand-tufting model spreading to Southeast Asia; Tai Ping's own filings list CIT as one of its two hand-tufted production sites. Dates: 1967 consistent; year of the Tai Ping commercial-business purchase not found. Mostly company sources.
