Research notes

Family company founded in 1991 that began with sisal rug borders and edge finishes, then (per the founder) bought struggling weaving and tufting companies and renovated their collections. Says it spins and dyes yarn, weaves, tufts and finishes in Mouscron, with hand-tufted rugs as a main category alongside flatweaves and braids, all "100% designed and produced in Belgium". About 100 staff in an older interview, 200+ in later articles. Why it matters: a vertically integrated European hand-tufter in Belgium, the country of Balta and Beaulieu's machine-made output—useful contrast of hand and machine tufting in one region. Dates: 1991 consistent across sources (TLmag interview and retailers); headcounts vary by date. No official history page was found in search; sourceUrl is a partner profile.
