Research notes

Founded in 1889 as "Ludvig Anderssons mattor", which the company calls Sweden's first industrial rug company; production moved in 1901 to a new factory in Kinna on a site called Kasthall, where all rugs are still made. Makes woven and hand-tufted rugs to order (the company describes wool or linen punched through a backing with a tufting tool). Designers linked to it include Ingrid Dessau, Viola Gråsten, Astrid Sampe and Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg. Why it matters: a 19th-century Scandinavian weaving mill that added hand-tufting and kept production at home; a European peer of Scott Group and Kramis. Dates: 1889 and 1901 from the company; independent design press repeats 1889. When Kasthall began hand-tufting was not found—don't imply tufting since 1889. Founder's name spelled Anderson/Andersson.
