Research notes

Started in 1938 in Herning with two looms; registered first as Herning Bomuldsvæveri, a cotton mill (lex.dk); public company 1951. The company says it built a 25,000 m² tufting factory in Herning in the early 1970s, followed by a "Multicolour" plant for commercial carpet. Founder sat in the Danish parliament from 1964; died 1999. Makes woven and tufted carpet; known in the 1960s–70s for rya rugs. Why it matters: Scandinavia's main industrial carpet maker and a clear example of a weaving mill moving to tufting around 1970. Dates: 1938 confirmed (company and lex.dk); tufting date is from the company. "One of Europe's largest" is a company claim.
