Research notes

Dalton chenille-bedspread firm founded by the Westcott brothers (archival photo records), one of the companies that moved bedspread-making from hand to machine. Its Jess Spencer Kile filed a tufting-machine patent in 1939 (issued 1945; see pat-us2389914a). Around 1950 bedspread firms such as Cabin Crafts, and newcomers like Barwick, began using tufting machines to make room-size carpet. Why it matters: a textbook example of the bedspread-to-broadloom path. The repo already holds a photo of Cabin Crafts executives (photo-cabin-crafts-arnall). Dates: founding year not found; a 1941 photo shows it operating. Later ownership (often linked to West Point-Pepperell, whose carpet business Shaw bought in 1987) not confirmed in searches.
