Research notes
Balta nv was set up in 1964 to make woven area rugs; Imperial Tufting Company (ITC) followed in Tielt in 1974 for tufted carpet. Grew into a major European soft-flooring group (rugs, broadloom, carpet tiles, non-wovens); listed on Euronext Brussels 2017. In 2022 the rugs and residential businesses were sold to Victoria PLC and the remaining group renamed Belysse. Why it matters: Belgium's machine-made rug and carpet cluster, combining woven and tufted output. Dates: 1964 and 1974 from company/filings; ownership after 2022 split between Victoria (Balta rugs) and Belysse (carpet).
