Research notes

Conservation-trade overview of 18th-century British floor coverings. Says ingrain/Scotch/Kidderminster were popular, woven double-sided, with more colour and design than most floor coverings of the period ('a coarser version of the Welsh blankets of today'), and that looped-pile Brussels and cut-velvet Wilton began to be made in 1740 (compare 1741 patent; 1749 at Kidderminster). Useful single overview for a chapter section; its 1740 date is rounder than the documentary 1741.
