Research notes

Corporate and public histories of carpet companies and individuals; industry periodicals; transcripts of oral interviews with carpet industry pioneers. By appointment. What the interviews probably are (Oct 2026): Deaton's bibliography lists about 85 interviews he conducted, 1972–1993. They include machine inventors and makers (Ernest J. Moench, Mose Painter, Albert Cobble, Paul Jolley, Lewis Card, Irby Passons; Glenn Looper's daughter Margaret Weissenberger) and the bedspread generation (Addie Evans and W. R. Evans, Catherine Evans Whitener's sister-in-law and nephew; Cabin Crafts' Jack Turner, Campbell Petty and Lulu Westcott). They also include DuPont's Hugh Barrow and the TTMA's R. E. Hamilton.
